A Kassen
A Kassen is a Danish artist collective that comprises Christian Bretton-Meyer, Morten Steen Hebsgaard, Søren Petersen, and Tommy Petersen. They live and work in Copenhagen and Berlin.
Since they first met at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2004, A Kassen have explored a great variety of artistic practices, from sculpture to performance, as well as architecture and photography. Described by the artists as “performative installations and sculptures”, their works deconstruct and reconstruct everyday objects, other artists’ works, and traditional ways of exhibiting art in order to call into question the canonized ways and means of showing art related to the Art History and institutional culture. Their post-conceptual approach creates, not without a sense of humour, a subtle dialogue between the work of art, the documentation, and the in situ intervention.
A Kassen’s work is featured in many international collections, including those at the Malmö Kunstmuseum in Sweden, the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo in Spain, and the Brandts Museum in Denmark. Their works were recently exhibited in several institutions, such as the Bærum Kunsthall in Norway, the Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen, and the Fondation CAB in Brussels.
