In 1981, the Juan March Foundation presented an exhibition titled Half a Century of Sculpture (1900-1945) . This new exhibition, which addresses the history of contemporary sculpture from the concept of scale, extends it in time and space. The exhibition revolves around this concept, whose flexibility has given artists and the public new freedoms since the middle of the last century. The scale has been and is so crucial ‒as well as, paradoxically, easy to ignore‒ for the development of sculpture in the second half of the 20th century, which lends itself to presenting many of the contemporary sculptural practices from it.
