Raphaël Zarka's monumental work of art, inaugurated in June 2024, marks a new page in the history of the Trélazé match factory.
This major state-owned factory, founded in the early 1920s, closed its doors in 1981 after half a century in business. In 2010, the exceptional heritage interest of this industrial site was recognised. The State, the town of Trélazé and the social leaseholder occupying the site agreed to protect its remarkable architectural features, in the wake of a strong public campaign.
The creation of La Doublure is a further milestone: in addition to the recognition of the site's heritage, an artistic gesture has been added that reflects the site's social history. It reflects the determination of the Ministry of Culture, working alongside local authorities, to bring art and culture to every corner of the country.
