In 2024, the Villa Datris Foundation explores the vision of the body by 65 French and international artists. A topical subject, the body remains the concrete symbol of the states of mind of the world's men and women. By its title, the exhibition welcomes representations of those who are at one with both spirit and matter. Shaped by its structure, its inner life, as much as by the way we look at it, how do we see the body today? Since the 19th century, representations of the “classical” body and the “ideal” nude have been called into question, reflecting the profound changes taking place in our societies. More than a group exhibition, “faire corps ” takes the pulse of human representation at its most current, diverse and audacious, through the eyes of recognized and emerging artists.
Villa Datris hosts Niki de Saint Phalle's 1968 installation Last Night I Had a Dream. Sensitive and generous, the bodies of iconic Nanas soar in 18 bas-reliefs as the gentle, luminous message of the doubts and joys that carpet dreams. The freedom of the symbols and the roundness of the colors reactivate the artist's dream world without limit.
