The Académie des Beaux Arts de Paris awards the Prix de sculpture François Masson to Raphaël Zarka.
The Académie des Beaux-Arts wishes to recognise, through a major international prize, a sculptor who expresses a desire and an imagination materialised by a work permanently inscribed in a landscape or a space accessible to the public. The sculpted work is part of the poetics of space celebrated by Gaston Bachelard, who explores the imaginary dimension of our relationship with space by focusing on the spaces of intimate happiness. Sculpture helps us to better inhabit the world, thanks to the powers of imagination and daydreaming. The Fondation Louis Le Masson et François Masson - Académie des beaux-arts supports artistic creation and access to culture. The François Masson Sculpture Prize is awarded every two years. The winning artist is chosen by the members and correspondents of the sculpture section of the Académie des Beaux-Arts and the prize is worth €50,000.
François Masson (1745-1807) was a sculptor whose works can be seen in public spaces such as the Château de Versailles, the Tuileries Gardens and various museums.
