Morgan Fisher
Morgan Fisher is born in Washington, D.C., in 1942.
Lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
Morgan Fisher is an American experimental filmmaker and artist best known for his structuralist and minimalist films. His first films were experimental works that are identified with the Structural Film movement in their emphasis of medium over literal content. He also began a critique on the threatening disappearance of artistic mediums such as analog film, a thread still recurrent 40 years later in his drawings and photographs based on the obsolescence of film photography. By the 1990s, Fisher's work grew to include painting and installation, most notably his monochrome, square canvases, and installations dependent on the interaction between artworks within a particular space.
His work has been included in three Whitney Biennial exhibitions, 1985, 2004 and 2014. His artworks are present in major international institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
