A year ago Galerie Mitterrand opened the largest ever outdoor exhibition dedicated to Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne, Les Lalanne at Trianon, at the Château de Versailles, both at the gardens of the Petit Trianon and at the Queen's Hamlet. The exhibition revealed poetic and surrealist animal sculptures in dialogue with the bucolic atmosphere of the park and the pavilions.
On the occasion of Design Miami Basel 2022, Galerie Mitterrand is thrilled to present more than 50 works by Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne. It will be an exceptional opportunity to discover some of the couple's most emblematic creations such as the Choupatte, Singe Attentif, Moutons de Laine or Pomme Bouche. Also on display will be rare works specially staged for the fair such as a Pair of Sphinxes and a Grenouille (Fountain).
Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne carried out their work in parallel from the 1950s onwards, drawing their inspiration from nature. Their creation are based on playful associations imbued with humour and poetry. All their lives, the Lalanne paid tribute to nature by evoking fauna and flora in sculpture.
