For its first-ever participation in Tefaf New York, Galerie Mitterrand is pleased to present an exhibition dedicated to Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne.
This exhibition includes a group of major works from a prestigious American collection assembled over the past twenty years with the Mitterrand Gallery. It demonstrates the quality of the exchange between a collector and his gallery in the creation of a major collection.
The exhibition at Tefaf will bring together a group of iconic works by Claude Lalanne belonging to the so-called "Crocodile" furniture such as the essential pair of Fauteuils, the Grand Banc and a very rare Bureau originally designed for the designer Tom Ford in New York. These works are one of the best examples of Claude Lalanne's surrealist creativity and audacity. As a counterpoint to these fantastic works of Claude will also be presented a pair of Singes Alternatifs by François-Xavier Lalanne. These Monkeys are indisputably one of the most accomplished and sought after works of the artist, it synthesizes and illustrates wonderfully the search for perfection of the drawing and the genius of the form characteristic of the work of François-Xavier Lalanne. Other major works, such as the Grande Carpe, the Chevreuil or the Guéridon Éléphant of François Xavier Lalanne will complete this exceptional collection.
