For the past 10 years, the Prix Yishu 8 France has rewarded three young French artists each year, offering them a two- to three-month residency at the Maison des arts de Pékin founded by Christine Cayol in 2009 in the former Franco-Chinese university. This year's anniversary was celebrated with an invitation from the Musée Guimet, where 20 Yishu 8 prize-winning artists gathered for the exhibition Bons Baisers de Pékin, conceived by Yishu 8 (October 18, 2022/February 27, 2023).
Supported by Maison BOUCHERON since 2018, the Yishu 8 Prize promotes Sino-French encounters, giving young artists the opportunity to discover China and develop a project in line with Chinese thought and aesthetics. The jury is made up of professionals from the world of art and culture (1) and chaired by Henry-Claude Cousseau, former director of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris.
The three 2023 winners are Gaspar Willmann, My-Lan Hoang Thui and Jonathan Bréchignac. The prize was presented on September 20, 2023 at the Boucheron apartments on Place Vendôme in Paris.
