EMPOWERING ARTISTS: A CONVERSATION AROUND THE EXHIBITION THE WORLD IS WHOLLY INSIDE, AND I AM WHOLLY OUTSIDE MYSELF
On the occasion of its new exhibition The World Is Wholly Inside, And I Am Wholly Oustide Myself, Galerie Mitterrand invites you to a conversation moderated by Carlos Valladares. Artists Corinna Gosmaro, Luc Ming Yan, Monsieur Zohore and the exhibition's curator, Barbara Newman will discuss the works presented in this exhibition.
By selecting artists exploring the possibilities of painting, Barbara Newman invites us to see “the body” as bridge between works that, at first glance, appear very different stylistically. From abstract to figurative, trompe l’oeil to hyper-realism, from gestural painting to performance art, the field of investigation offered here is vast, and reflects the diversity of artistic practices today. This exhibition brings together different approaches and perspective from artists of different cultural backgrounds to form a new and complex framework. From revisiting still life and vanitas paintings where we perceive objects and motifs with contentious social significance to questioning the intentions behind celebration, gratification and authenticity of today’s spectacle-objecting culture, dialogues are formed to express reflections on the human being as a global cultural entity.
