Carl Andre
Carl Andre is one of the leading figures of American minimalist art, which developed in the United States in the 1960s. The simple geometric forms of his work are, above all, part of a meditation on the perception of objects and their relationships to space. Some of Andre's pieces allow viewers to tread on the sculpture, thereby questioning its verticality. These pieces do not privilege any one point of view, axis, or hierarchy.
Carl Andre's work was featured in a 2017 retrospective at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and at the Musée d?Art Moderne in Paris. His works are housed in permanent collections at the Guggenheim Museum, the MoMA in New York, the Tate in London, and the Pompidou Centre in Paris, amongst others.
