Mariana Oushiro: The world is wholly inside, and I am wholly outside myself — Curated by Barbara Newman
Galerie Mitterrand is pleased to present a group show curated by Barbara Newman, (collector and curator based between New York and Paris) featuring works by Corinna Gosmaro, Mariana Oushiro, Andrew Sendor, Chibụike Ụzọma, Scott Young, and Monsieur Zohore. The exhibition spans the two gallery spaces; in the front gallery space will be presented the first solo show of Brazilian artist Mariana Oushiro; in the second gallery space, a group show featuring the works of artists based in Europe and the United States.
By selecting artists whose creative medium is paint, Barbara Newman invites us to see “the body” as bridge between works that, at first glance, appear very different stylistically. From abstract to figurative, trompe l’oeil to hyper-realism, from gestural painting to performance art, the field of investigation offered here is vast, and reflects the diversity of artistic practices today. This exhibition brings together different approaches and prospective from artists of different cultural background to form a new and complex framework. From re-envisioning of still life and vanitas paintings where we perceive objects and motifs with contentious social significance to questioning the intentions behind celebration, satisfaction and authenticity of today’s spectacle-objecting culture, dialogues are formed to express reflections on the human being as a global cultural entity.
